"Believe in Blue" Capital Campaign

Saint Edmund is growing...growing...growing!

What started in 2002 as the result of a growing population at St. Edmund Catholic School, has turned into a burgeoning project that will come to fruition based on the outcome of the 2006 St. Edmund Catholic School Financial Feasibility study.

In 2002, the St. Edmund School Board, working with the school administration and faculty, assessed the need for an expansion to its physical facility.  In short, St. Ed’s student body was growing bigger than the buildings could accommodate.

The immediate needs were more classroom space, new coaches’ office, an upgrade to the elementary gymnasium and a new gymnasium.

School leaders created the St. Edmund Building Committee with the intent of furthering the mission of our school by developing plans to expand the physical plant and maintaining the integrity of our school’s master plan.

The first step was to expand the school’s “footprint” by purchasing land adjacent to the school facility.  Throughout the next few years, as property became available along 3rd Street, the Building Committee authorized the school, through its Building Fund, to purchase land.

In June 2006, the Building Committee succeeded in purchasing most of the land along Third Street and was ready to proceed with its original intent of expanding St. Edmund Catholic School.  Plans were drawn up, based on input gathered from local community members, and the St. Edmund Steering Committee was formed.  Through the work of the Steering Committee, a feasibility study was conducted to determine the ability for the community to support the upcoming building campaign.  On November 28th, 2006 the St. Edmund Financial Feasibility Study was presented showing that the community could support and raise the funds to begin its first Capital Campaign in over 25 years.

The $2 million plan will include the building of a new multi-purpose facility across the street from the current gymnasium with allowance to renovate the older gymnasium structure and growth of the current Saint Edmund Foundation endowment fund.

The new facility will include 29,000 sq. ft. of space to include; three (3) fully contained elementary classrooms with separate restroom facilities, four (4) classrooms for use by the high school or middle school, a state-of-the-art gymnasium with an all-wood gymnasium floor measuring the LHSAA maximum size specifications of 50 feet by 90 feet, and locker rooms.

Also included in this building campaign is a budget allotment to renovate the most notable structure standing on Saint Edmund Catholic School’s campus; the current wood framed gymnasium.  The renovation will include an upgrade to the existing facility to bring back the former glory of St. Edmund School.

We thank you for your cooperation and participation and it is our sincerest hopes that we can grow as a school and a community for the betterment of both.
