Policy

The following procedure must be adhered to concerning grievances by appointment

First Step  Meet with the teacher
Second Step Meet with the Principal
Third Step Meet with the Pastor

If after this procedure has been followed and no resolution can be agreed upon, grievances may be made to the St. Edmund School Board according to the Diocesan Policy below.  It is important to remember that the St. Edmund School Board is an advisory board to the Administration and Pastor.  The St. Edmund Catholic school Pastor has ultimately the final word.

ARTICLE II

Duties of the School Board

The School Board is to provide expertise and advice to the local pastor/chancellor in accordance with the Canon Law of the Roman Catholic Church, the Synodal Law of the Diocese of Lafayette and the Regulations and Policies for Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Lafayette.

The primary functions of the School Board are to develop a budget to provide for the school's financial and physical well-being and growth; to implement a development program incorporating a long-range plan and including active, positive public relations and marketing of the school; and to formulate broad policies for the school.  The board will assist in the selection of a new principal as set forth in diocesan guidelines, and it may periodically evaluate the principal's relationship to the board as its chief executive officer.  The board will evaluate its own effectiveness annually.

All meetings of the board are to be meetings open to school employees and parents of children at the school unless designated as an executive session by a majority of the voting members present or by the pastor/chancellor.

No person or group shall be granted the right to address a meeting of the board or participate in its deliberations unless prior approval to do so has been obtained.

a.   Any person desiring to address the board shall notify the chairperson no later than ten (10) days prior to the next meeting.  Upon receipt of such request, the chairperson shall contact the vice-chairperson and the principal.
b.   It shall be required an affirmative or two of that group (chairperson, vice-chairperson, pastor, principal) to approve such a request.
